your expert guide and cultural teacher

Kumu Pa'a Lawrence Aki from the valley of Halawa, Molokai, Hawaii, is born and raised on the island. His maternal grandmother Bernice Kawailani Nahoopii was his first teacher, accompanied by a great many grandaunts and granduncles. For 35+ years he was taught the ancient Hawaiian traditions by his still living blood-uncle Kumu Hula Anakala Pilipo Solatorio. Joining him on the Molokai Hula Bliss & Huakaʻi are Kumu Paʻa Kawika Foster, and his two Poʻopuaʻa (apprentice) Kathryn Roberts & Poʻopuaʻa (apprentice) Kyrian van Vliet, in our Annual 13-Day Molokai Hula Bliss & Huaka'i – a complete Immersion Program in Hawaiian Culture, Spirituality and Traditional Practices on the island of Molokai.

50th Generation Teacher Kumu Pa'a Lawrence Aki is known for his knowledge on the history of Molokai; his engaging telling of the famous Moʻolelo, stories, of the chiefs and chieffesses as well as teaching the Hawaiian knowledge of spirituality and healing which was passed down to him word for word, tone for tone. If you want to know more about the Wahi Pana (sacred sites), or the many archeological sites of Molokai, Kumu Lawrence will share the story with great passion and detail as was shared with him by his main teachers Anakala Pilipo and Aunty Harriet Ne.

Note that space is truly limited for our Molokai Hula Bliss & Huakaʻi 2018. If you are the one who needs to be there make your booking here.

Much of the ancient knowledge preserved and taught in Halawa Valley Molokai was at Na Heiau (ancient temples/schools) in Halawa. Its structures of stone walls still exist till this day.

Unforgettable first day with Molokai Ohana..the time with Nā Kupuna now lives deep within me...the energy is strong and unwavering.... the aloha here is supreme...so much connection....only the first full day in Moloka’i, but truly a day I will never forget. [..]
All in all, I feel this Island of Molokai, these Elders, these Kumu these po’e....and especially this Kumu...Kumu Pa’a Lawrence Aki, has been the very place and the very people I have spent all these years looking for. I have never felt more welcome and felt so much aloha than here and now. I feel truly blessed and have never been more complete as a human. This moku is a small town kinda island, not like any of the other islands, but is by far my most cherished and will always be first in my heart. Moloka’i no ka heke.

Where does the molokai Hula Bliss & Huakaʻi take place

Accommodations are still being organized.

What has pulled on my heart strings so far is the Aloha and wisdom shared by the Kupuna’s (Elder’s) of the land. This journey has given the opportunity to be part of ceremonies at Sacred sites and protocols for everyday life as well as much more. No words can express the true essence of this journey, it needs to be experienced.
